Fuel System parts
Fuel system parts store and deliver fuel at the pressure the engine requires: the tank that holds it, the pump that pressurises it, the sender that reports level, and the cap that seals the system.
In-tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel around them, which is why running a vehicle persistently near empty shortens pump life. Customers who habitually run on the last quarter tank are the ones who replace pumps.
Pumps are supplied by pressure and flow specification as well as by physical fitment. A module that bolts in but delivers the wrong pressure will produce running faults that look like an injection problem.
Always replace the fuel filter alongside a pump. Fitting a new pump behind a blocked filter loads it from the first minute.

- Fuel CapsThe fuel cap seals the filler neck, containing fuel vapour and keeping contamination out. On modern vehicles it forms part of the sealed evaporative emissions system.
- Fuel PumpsThe fuel pump delivers fuel from the tank to the engine at the pressure the injection system requires. Most modern vehicles use an electric pump mounted inside the fuel tank, cooled by the fuel around it.
- Fuel SendersThe fuel sender measures how much fuel is in the tank and reports it to the gauge. It uses a float on an arm connected to a variable resistor.
- Fuel TanksThe fuel tank stores fuel and houses the pump, level sender and associated plumbing. Tanks are made from moulded plastic or pressed steel depending on the application.

What are the signs of a failing fuel pump?
Extended cranking before starting, loss of power under load or on a climb, and stalling that clears after the vehicle sits. A whine from the tank that is louder than usual is an early warning.
Should the fuel filter be replaced with the pump?
Yes. A restricted filter is often what killed the original pump, and fitting a new pump behind it repeats the failure.
