Gaskets and Seals parts
Gaskets and seals close the joints between engine components, containing combustion pressure, oil and coolant at the mating faces between the block, head and manifolds.
A head gasket rarely fails on its own. It fails because the engine overheated, or because the head or block face is no longer flat. Fitting a new gasket without addressing the cause produces a repeat failure and an unhappy customer.
Have the head skimmed and checked for flatness whenever it comes off. It is inexpensive relative to the strip, and it is the difference between a repair that lasts and one that does not.
Gasket kits are supplied by engine code. Full sets, head sets and decarbonising sets contain different items, so confirm which the job requires before ordering.
Gaskets and Seals parts we supply
- Cylinder Head GasketsThe cylinder head gasket seals the joint between the engine block and the cylinder head, containing combustion pressure while keeping oil and coolant passages separate.
- Gasket KitsA gasket kit is a matched set of gaskets and seals for a specific engine, supplied for a defined scope of work such as a head overhaul or a full rebuild.
- Intake and Exhaust GasketsIntake and exhaust gaskets seal the manifolds to the cylinder head, keeping unmetered air out of the intake and exhaust gas inside the exhaust system.
Gaskets and Seals questions
What are the signs of a blown head gasket?
White exhaust smoke that smells sweet, coolant loss with no visible external leak, oil that has gone milky, or bubbling in the expansion tank while the engine runs. Combustion gas in the coolant confirms it.
Does the cylinder head need skimming when the gasket is replaced?
Check it every time. Most head gasket failures follow an overheat, and an overheat is what distorts the head. Fitting a new gasket to a warped face repeats the failure.
