Transmission and clutch parts connect and disconnect engine power from the gearbox. A clutch kit comprises the friction disc, the pressure plate that clamps it, and the release bearing that disengages it.
Clutch work is gearbox-out labour, which is the single most important fact about buying these parts. The bearing is the cheapest item in the kit and the most common reason a clutch job is done twice.
Always replace the kit as a set. Fitting a new disc against a worn pressure plate, or reusing a release bearing because it still turns quietly on the bench, is how a workshop ends up doing the job again under its own warranty.
Check the flywheel while the gearbox is out. A scored or heat-checked surface will destroy a new disc, and it is the only time the flywheel is accessible without repeating the entire strip.

What comes in a clutch kit?
A standard three-piece kit contains the friction disc, the pressure plate or cover assembly, and the release bearing. Some applications add a pilot bearing or an alignment tool. Confirm the contents with the branch when ordering.
Can I replace only the clutch disc?
Technically yes, but it is a false economy. The pressure plate and release bearing have worn alongside the disc, and the labour to reach them is identical. Replace all three while the gearbox is out.
How do I know the clutch is failing rather than the gearbox?
A slipping clutch shows rising engine revs without matching acceleration, most obvious under load in a high gear. Difficulty selecting gears or a juddering take-up points at the clutch too. Noise that changes with road speed rather than pedal position is more likely the gearbox.
